Some characteristics that define a New Rens basketball player are poise and a never-quit attitude. During the semi-finals of the Mid-Jersey Heat Super Regionals, the 6th grade Rens needed both. Trailing a tough Team NWK by three points with under a minute remaining, Gary Harvey came up with a huge basket to cut the Team NWK cushion to one with 27 seconds left in regulation. On the ensuing Team NWK offensive possession, Rens defensive stalwarts Judah McIntyre, Chaz Clark and Jayson Robinson put the clamps on the opposition which led to a turnover and the New Rens reclaiming the basketball with 12 seconds left and a chance to win the game. Jalen Carey did his best “former UCLA guard Tyus Edney impression”, going coast-to-coast for a lay-in and drawing the foul. After he sunk the free-throw, the 6th Grade New Rens held on for a 56-54 win and advanced to the championship.
The 6th grade New Rens maintained their end of game momentum from the semi-finals right into the championship game against Baltimore Elite. The inside dominance of big men Nayshon Hamlet and Gary Harvey, teamed with the outside shooting of Daniel Klosk, Sahdique Watkins and Antoine Hernton, helped the Rens race out to a big lead early. The Rens never looked back as they cruised to a 59-30 win.

Way to go guys!!!!
