The 16u and 17u New Rens, coached by Tony Hargraves, have been on a tear! In consecutive weeks, both squads have made it to the championship game of their respective tournaments, with each team winning one, while narrowly falling in the other.
The 16u started their run by knocking off some quality teams at the Hall of Fame tourney in Springfield, Massachusetts, en route to the championship. In the final they came up just short to a game Rhode Island Hawks squad. Not dwelling on the Hall of Fame Tourney loss, the team rebounded with a strong showing at the AAU Regional qualifying tourney held in New Haven, Connecticut. How strong was their showing? Strong enough to win the entire event. With the victory, they now qualify for the AAU National tournament held in Florida in July.
The older 17u New Rens put in some work of their own. They took home the hardware at the Hall of Fame tourney in the Silver bracket and narrowly lost by four points the following weekend at the AAU Regional qualifying tournament in New Haven. Even in defeat, the 17u squad was still able to qualify for the AAU National tourney in Florida.
Just for good measure the 16u and 17u teams entered a split-squad, consisting of players from both teams in the Bball Shootout 18u tournament. The result? Another great showing, as the split-squad ran the table and won the entire tournament. Congrats to both teams on their conquests!!!
